Kinked Skateboards

We we’re dead hyped when Zach contacted us to talk about his company, he’s creating something special and we thought we’d share it with you guys:

Here’s a cheeky interview with the man himself…after a Christmas edit!

Tell us about Kinked…where are you guys from, where did this all begin and who’s working behind the scenes at Kinked?

We’re from Northampton and all the riders so far are Northampton born and bred. I just got together a few friends who I felt that are good skaters and I enjoyed filming and had a field day.

You’ve got a pretty strong crew, tell us about the guys who are riding for you..

The Team is Dean Dalington, Jeigh Snooks and two more team riders to be announced after filming a promo video we’re doing. Got a couple on flow Tom Walder and Jack Beresford.
Dean Darlington was that little ripper you could find everyday at the original Radlands. Back then he was know as little Dean or as that little shit. Now He’s still a wind up but the soundest guy always cracking me up with endless laughs.
Jeighs a terrier on a skateboard always commits to every trick no matter how big! I’ve been skating with him for about a year now but recently He’s been coming into his own and killing it!
Tom and Jack are also ones to look out for. Tom recently had a hard time since he broke his ankle. Jacks been digging into his bag of tricks and pulling out a load of new ones now the new Radlands is open. The guys got a mean hardflip he can pop them real high!

Your art direction is pretty arty, who’s behind it?

Art is nearly as big of a passion as skateboarding is for me. I’ve designed a couple of decks and I’m always sketching up new ideas for ads and things. The Logo board that’s out now on the website is one of the boards. It’s got 3 colour ways for 3 sizes.
We’ve had a group of artists called buy cialis rag and bone collective design a board for us. The “octopus deck” also on the online store. Lucus Jubb was the man behind a lot of the design. He was always in contact and great to work with. I was so happy with the design. You can find these on facebook and see some of their artwork. They are always posting up new things to look at. A great creative bunch they are!
Rob Clarkson a close friend of mine who I skated with while he was at uni here in Northampton. He has done a design with us for the future. Really hyped with it and it’s all hand drawn in his crazy style. We’re doing a little interview along with him skating and some of his art to go along side his board design I’m very excited for its release.

What ideas do you have for Kinked in 2013?

2013 will be a good year for kinked skating. I’m really focused on getting a ton of footage for all the skaters this year. I’m planning to get a long promo out 20 min plus.
This will include the whole kinked team and the locals around Northampton and Milton Keynes. The promo will also introduce two of the new team members. That is the biggest project of the year. Expect the release after summer time maybe late Autumn.
Other than that we got some exciting new board designs to release stating with Rob Clarkson’s design along with a video for that.
Hopefully we can afford to get some ads out too and get some new clothing released.
2013 is going to be an exciting year!
Cheers Summer!

EDIT INTERVIEW:BARCELONA WITH THE LEDGE SKATESHOP…

Regular content contributor Forde Brookfield recently travelled to Barcelona with Eric Thomas and Mike Simons who were representing Leicester skate shop The Ledge in the My DC Crew competition. Joe Marks and Timmy Garbett were also on the trip representing Slugger. A handful of shops are invited to the Embassy to shoot with DC filmers and each section is posted on the DC Embassy site where a voting poll will decide which team has the best edit. Forde has made an edit of the trip so we spoke with him about it…

So how was the trip over?

It's the first time I'd flown and I'd been to the toilet 5 fucking times before I was even at the airport haha. As soon as we started boarding, I had to run toilet again! Never been so nervous. The actual flight itself was amazing, I didn't think I'd enjoy it but it was rad. The flight back was rad, until the last 30 minutes or so. Turbulence was horrible. I think it was about 85mph wind and it felt like it was smashing the plane from side to side. Mike was loving it apparently, says he wanted more turbulence haha. Joe Marks was terrified, but I won't go too much into it 'cause he'll beat my ass hahaha….Joe was shitting it hard.

I'm weird like that turbulence is amazing fun..

Haha you're mental! I was nervous but I wasn't screaming or anything. Couldn't control it if it was crashing so I'm not gonna freak out too much about it haha. All these girls where screaming and I think one was crying, not even exaggerating, they where shitting it. When we landed, all I and Eric seen was mud, we thought was was landing on a farm haha. That plane hit the floor so hard, surprised the wheels didn't snap or anything. The landing was fucking shit hahaha.

So this vid is you skating barca outside of the embassy?

This video is from the day after we skated the Embassy. I couldn't film in the Embassy or anything. We went Forum, took the p

iss walking to it. We stayed right next to Paral-lel but wanted to go a bit further out.

Best and worst part of the trip?

Best thing about it was the whole thing. I think the best was seeing the spots that you've seen in videos for years and actually seeing how big they are in real life. Makes you respect what tricks have been done more when you see the size of

the spot. Was rad just skating around with the lads and getting out there, filming and making a fun edit of it. Was rad getting 1 euro beers off the street from shady street salesmen, haha. DC Embassy was rad as well. The park is unreal, could live there.

Worst thing was Timmy Garbage having a shit in his locker at 4AM whilst he was smashed out of his face. He lost his locker key and they charged him 10 euros for a replacement. So for a 'revenge' type of thing, he took the blackest shit in his locker and let it simmer in there for a bit before he picked it up and threw it out of a window. You know every bit of Timmy G footage you see? he's always taking a shit? Yeah, he did it in a locker. Hahahaha, I fucking love Timmy! RATZ!!!!

The whole trip was rad, I'm so grateful to have gone out there and witnessed it. I plan to go back out there in 2/3 months for longer. Barcalife.

A massive thanks to the big boss Tim Hunt at The Ledge Skate Shop for setting it all up and paying for me to go. Thanks to Paul Cartwright and Raz Wright from the Ledge as well.

A big thanks to Leo Sharp, Edu Muñoz, Winkle, Adrian Morales and the rest of the crew at the DC Embassy. They where super humble and the nicest guys! Final thanks to Joe Marks, Eric Thomas, Mike Simons and Timmy Garbett for killin' it and making the trip fun!

And thank you for this interview Mike!
